　　I'm looking forward to my long-awaited summer vacation. I just wanted to relax, but my mother was holding up the books. I had to sit on my desk all day long and do endless homework. I was so sleepy that I took a nap...

　　Suddenly, there was a world of fantasy: the house was flying in the sky, and the people and animals were playing. I hurried in. I went to a school where my contemporaries were shooting, some doing experiments, some making tiny robots. I asked my neighbor, "why don't students here?" "The schools here encourage students to innovate," he says. I'm fresh! And they joined them.

　　I entered the laboratory and wanted to do experiments with my classmates. "Bang!" The bottle around me exploded and it startled me. 　　Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered many physical features of the earth. He has transformed woodlands and prairies into farms and made lakes and reserviors out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power. Man has also modified the face of the earth by draining marshes and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways.

　　However, man's changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial results. Smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside. The pollution of water is equally harmful.
