行动与收获
一个落魄不得志的中年人，每隔两三天就去教堂祈祷，而且每次的祷告词都是相同的`。
第一次来到教堂，他跪在圣坛前祷告：“上帝呀，让我中一次彩票吧！阿门，我愿做你忠实的仆人。”
两天后又去祷告，“上帝呀，让我中一次彩吧！阿门，我愿做你忠实的仆人。”
几天后又去祷告，祷词是一样的。
……
最后一次，他说：“上帝，为什么你不聆听我的祷告呢？让我中一次彩票吧！”
此时，圣坛上一个庄严的声音响起“我一直都在听你的祷告，可最起码，你应该买一张彩票吧！”
一份耕耘，一份收获。你有怎样的付出，就有怎样的收获，上天不会掉下“馅饼”。如果你不付出艰辛，就想获得成功，那简直是痴心妄想。你想有收获吗？那就要有起码的付出。在这个世上，付出与收获永远成正比。

语议论文类似英语说明文，它具有英语说明文的一些语言特点：多用现在时、强调语言表达的客观性、尽可能指明信息来源等等。但作为一种独立的文体，英语议论文在语言上也有一些自己特有的表达形式。请看下文：
Since there are girls and boys in each classroom， the communication with each other cannot be avoided. Then comes a problem： how shall we look at it？ From my point of view， it’s quite a natural， common thing and there’s nothing wrong with it. My reasons are as follows.
To begin with， the class is like a big family in which every student，whether a boy or a girl， is a member. Therefore， it’s quite natural for girl students to communicate with boy students just like brothers and sisters. Besides， proper communication can smooth away misunderstanding and develop friendship. Finally， it is generally believed that girls are able to help make up for the boys’ carelessness while boys are supposed to help girls solve some maths and physics problems.
However， there is always the other side to the coin. Too much and close staying-together may bring about negative effect （影响） for example falling in love， which may waste their time for study.
Anyway， as long as students can develop a proper attitude toward the communication between boy students and girl students instead of going to extreme， positive effect will certainly be greater than negative effect.
从上文不难看出，英语议论文在语言表达形式上主要有两大特点：
1.较多使用表达委婉语气的词语和句子
与英语说明文相比，英语议论文不仅需要说明自己的'观点，还要让读者接受自己的观点，因此，在词语表达上除了客观之外，还必须注意委婉。在英语中，常用虚拟语气，以及让步状语从句和情态动词can， could， may， might， would， should等。
2. 使用有辩论、推理等含义的连接词和过渡词等词语结构
英语议论文讲究辩论推理的条理性和逻辑性，因此，往往较多地使用这类性质的过渡词和连接词，常用的包括：since （既然），now that （既然），therefore （因而），accordingly （因此），in that case（在那种情况下），because （因为），so （所以）。另外，还有些句型也常出现在英语议论文中，比如：It follows that...（因而……），Should it be the case （如果是这样的话……），I don’t want to...， but...（我并不想……，但是……），If you admit...， then...（如果你承认……，那么……），It is true that...， but...（诚然……，但是……）， Even if...（即使……）等。

Some people say that they will not give up smoking because they have the right to do what they want to do since smoking is not against the law. Yes， it’s true that smoking does not go against the law and therefore they can do as they like， but what is equally true is that they have to be responsible for what they do at the same time. Now I don’t want to bring fears to anyone， but here are some statistics （统计数字） I’ve just got from newspaper： Over seventy percent of the people who died of lung cancer were heavy smokers. More than thirty-five percent deformed （畸形的） babies have smoking mothers. Even if those chain smokers （一支接一支抽烟者） are not afraid for themselves， shouldn’t they be afraid for their family members if they have got any？
