Tess的英文读后感

We all have secrets, as Tess does. I guess, most of us keep our secrets in order to not get hurt. We tuck the secrets into cocoons, let it be a burden in our hearts.

Tess的英文读后感

But Tess, the poor country maid, driven by her pure heart, confessed.

Tess’ confession seemed to have been the silliest thing in the whole world. Revealing the awful secret, she could never be the pure country maid again, which she once was. The most terrible, Angel, Tess’ dearest, abandoned Tess for a long time merely because of her confession of the awful past. Tess seemed to have lost everything and finally lead an almost tragic life.

I once thought it’s a pity for Tess to confess. But when I closed my eyes and imagined—what will life be if Tess had never mentioned her past? I got two possible stories by my self…

Story one: After the marriage, Angel confessed as they’ve promised, Tess just forgave Angel and did nothing more. With every effort, Tess kept her past a secret that moment to ever, the ever which ended in the grave. That might seemed like a perfect ending, but what about Tess’ inside world, what about her feelings? Tess feels she’s not a true wife, there’s gap between herself and Angel. With time passing by, the gap grows stronger. Tess will find it hard and guilty to live with Angel, and she’ll be worried and oversensitive as her guilt goes stronger. Her face will turn pale. However, as the husband of Tess, Angel can do nothing! He cannot help her as he knows nothing…On the other hand, Tess doesn’t deserve his help—it’s Tess herself who let she get trapped in that bad situation…Tess will lose everything except fame. What a pity! How from a beautiful girl she’ll become someone ruined and wrecked.

Story two: Even though Tess spared no effort to keep her pureness, her disgraceful past was finally discovered by Angel and his family. This time, she lost her pureness completely—she’s such a wicked woman acting as a pure country maid and keep cheating everyone, even her husband…It’s not hard to imagine what a hard life is waiting for Tess after the discovery.

Now let’s turn back to the original. Even though the ending is almost a tragic, it’s much better than those two without her confession as I’ve imagined, at least on one aspect: she won her dearest as a true wife, with her pure hart. ThEir harts were so close that they became one person in the end, even though that didn’t last long.

In my view, Tess became even purer after her confession. She was going to have nothing to hide then, despite of Angel’s refusal to accept her disgraceful past. But she’ll be free, her hart will be burdened by nothing, clear as dew. So that’s why I say she’s purer after her confession.

Tess sets an example for me. I think it’s time to take my secret out from the cocoon. 有might say it’s a overstatement to keep that thing a secret, but I actually did. Even more, I made up many lies for it, and deceived my friends, just like Tess, even it’s my closest friend Crystal.

I confess, Crystal, I shouldn’t have cheated you that my dather has been away on business , in fact, he lives in our city, and after all he almost has work to do. What I’ve made up was merely a wail covering the fact that my parents divorced and, I can almost find little thing in him I can take pride, I was afraid that you would look down on me. I was so bad to have lied another thing to you—my home is not in the graceful apartment which I’ve described, but the old crude one just behind it. That’s why I’ve never invite you to my home. I don’t dare, I don’t dare because of my ugly vanity. I know I’m wrong just from the very point I lied to you. Forgive me, Crystal, will you?

I feel much better now, but, maybe I’ll be troubled by the secret, the guilt if I never know Tess, never know Tess’s story. Thank you, Thomas Hardy, and maybe, I should thank God as well.
